George and Martha Washington Lamps - A Brief History

Sorry, however these lamps genuinely have little related to George and Martha Washington aside from their fashion of clothing and dress.

Most George and Martha Washington lamps were created of porcelain circa 1940. These were generally created using real 22 K gold trim. Try around you want but you cant ever duplicate the gold color trim utilized in these beautiful porcelain lamps unless of course you utilize real gold.

Although generally known as George and Martha Washington lamps, the ornamental figures decorating these porcelain lamps really represent wealthy people from the court of French King Louis XV around 1765.

The ornamental figures are typically in various states of romance, picnics, dancing, poetry, singing, etc. The initial works of art on a number of these lamps were initially in the French artist Jean- Recognitioné Fragonard (1732-1806). Fragonard was well-known for his very lewd and hedonistic art which was highly desired by wealthy art patrons of Louis XV's morally loose and entertaining court. George and Martha light adornments represent Fragonard's a lot more reserved works of art.

George and Martha Washington lamps are no more being created and the need for these vintage lamps still rise.

George Washington resided from 1732- 1799 so he was alive once the original designs were produced of these beautiful lamps in France.

In 1775, the Continental Congress hired Washington commander-in-chief from the American revolutionary forces. He was later chosen leader in 1789 but George and Martha Washington had nothing related to these lamps except both of them were built with a similar fashion of dressing that was also common in France throughout the period.
